Korean pop superstars BTS, the most popular boy band in world, have broken YouTube’s record for the most views garnered in the first 24 hours of release with their song titled Boy With Luv featuring American pop star Halsey, reported Variety.

As of 5am ET Saturday, Boy With Luv had racked up just over 78 million views, according to YouTube. That demolished the previous record, set just a week ago by K-pop girl group Blackpink’s Kill This Love, which had 56.7 million views in its first 24 hours to top Ariana Grande’s thank u, next.

In addition, BTS’s Boy With Luv video on YouTube drew a floundrering 2 million comments in the first 24 hours.  As of early Saturday, Boy With Luv had been the second trending video worldwide on YouTube, behind the first trailer for Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX).

Boy With Luv is a reference to the group’s 2014 song Boy in Luv. According to Variety‘s review of BTS’s new album Map of the Soul: Persona, released Friday.

Halsey’s vocals capture “the giddiness of being in love, while the lyrics address the relationship the group has with its ARMY: ‘I’m flying high in the sky with the two wings you gave me,’ with the wings referencing the title of their second album.”

BTS is an abbreviation of Bangtan Sonyeondan which literally translates to 'bulletproof boy scouts' although two years ago they announced an extension of their brand in English to 'Beyond the Scene.'

The Boy With Luv video pays homage to Gene Kelly’s classic movie musical Singin’ in the Rain. BTS dropped the video Friday, April 12, at 6 pm Korea Standard Time.

UA | 5 years ago | Reply I appreciate all the research behind the article. BTS music always has a deeper meaning from social issues to understanding and accepting one's self. They're called the leaders of next generation as they're impacting the lives of tens of thousands of humans belonging to different ages, races and religions. In this day and age if someone's not willing to give a chance to understand other cultures, its the biggest mistake they are making. People who have the disease of racism and xenophobia should reflect on their life choices. I hope Pakistanis stop judging 'the way they look' and make an effort to understand that music which is meaningful transcends the barrier of language and strikes a chord with the listener. I'll be looking forward to seeing similar articles from this platform.
