KHANPUR: Fire engulfed a general store in Khanpur’s Meena Bazaar in the wee hours, reducing goods worth millions of rupees to ashes. Though no casualty was reported in the fire, the shopkeeper is in mourning as the entire store burnt down.  “I don’t know what caused the fire, but it seems that it erupted due to a short circuit,” the shop owner told Express News. “Within minutes, the entire shop was reduced to ashes and we suffered a heavy loss.“We had brought items and valuables worth millions of rupees, but in minutes the whole stock was burnt,” he maintained. A snorkel of the fire brigade, flanked by rescue workers, rushed to the spot and started dousing the flames. After an hours-long operation, the fire was extinguished. “The fire could have spread to other shops, but timely action of the fire brigade saved other stores from being destroyed,” he said. He added that the market guard and passers-by informed about the fire on fire brigade’s emergency number and the snorkel reached the spot on time.
