Umair shines in mammoth Pakistan win
Hockey team plays junior Asia cup semi-final today.
KARACHI:
Pakistan’s young brigade registered another huge victory at the Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament, when they pummelled Kazakhstan 12-0 in their last group match of the event.
The defending champions will now meet Korea in the semi-final today. Pakistan, which had trounced Brunei 18-0, Chinese Taipei 17-0 and Singapore 6-0 earlier, showed no signs of mercy against Kazakhstan either.
Mohammad Umair’s four goals in the match were the highlight. Khurram Shahzad, Bilal Qadir and Arsalan Qadir contributed a brace each while Hafiz Rizwan and Mohammad Irfan scored one goal apiece.
However, coach Rana Mujahid warned the players against complacency ahead of the semi-final.
“We’ve performed well but our main test will be against Korea,” Mujahid told The Express Tribune. “It’ll be the toughest match for us.”
