KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has announced vacancies on multiple pay scales ranging from Grade 3 to Grade 21. What is surprising is that it debars Karachiites from applying on any of the 227 advertised posts.

The move provoked an outcry on social media, with several users on Twitter and Facebook pointing out the glaring discrimination by the KPT against Karachiites.

The apparent bias wasn't remiss on politicians either as the Pak Sarzameen Party's Secretary-General Raza Haroon pointed out the bias to the Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Ali Zaidi, who is himself an MNA from Karachi.

"Janab @AliHZaidiPTI Saheb, without bias, FYI, recent job advert published yesterday in newspapers and #KPT website. Not a single position offered to #Sindh (Uban). #Karachi continues to be deprived and suffer #discrimination of #Quotasystem," tweeted Raza Haroon.

The advertisement specifically mentions that the applicants must be from either Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh-Rural and K-P, respectively.
