In Sindh, families of cops who die of ailments will now be compensated

KARACHI: For the first time in the history of Pakistan and Sindh Police, the department has decided that the families of officers who served for at least ten years and died due to ailments will be paid a compensation of Rs25,000 for the next six months. Whether this practice will continue or not will be decided after the six-month evaluation.

The decision was made on the directives of Sindh Inspector-General (IG) of Police Dr Kaleem Imam at the 9th Sindh Police Benevolent/Welfare Board meeting held in Karachi Central Police Office. The meeting was attended by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) additional inspector-general (AIG), Special Branch AIG, Sindh police headquarters deputy inspector-general (DIG), Finance DIG, Sindh Welfare AIG, CPLC Chief, Gul Ahmed Textile Mills Director Zaid Bashir, journalists, social activists, filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinnoy and representatives of Sindh government.



Another major decision was made unanimously at the meeting that the family of martyred police officials will be given Rs300,000 immediately to cover the funeral expenses and to make it easier for the family until the departmental compensation is released.

Sindh IG issued directives to Welfare AIG that measures be taken to designate a quota in schools, colleges and universities for the children of martyred police officers. Welfare AIG Dr Rizwan Ahmed, while briefing the meeting about measures for the welfare of police employees, informed that in October-December 2018, a sum of Rs77.2 million was transferred online in the accounts of 5,418 widows of police officials. Furthermore, from January-March 2019 the board approved and permitted the transfer of Rs77.1m as remaining dues of 931 such cases and additional Rs68.1m for the widows.
