QUETTA: Levies personnel on Friday recovered nine kidnapped foreigners after a heavy exchange of fire in the Taftan area of Chagai district, along the border of Pakistan and Iran.

According to official sources, the Levies, while acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid and recovered the Afghan citizens. However, the kidnappers managed to flee from the scene.

Chagai Deputy Commissioner Fateh Khan Khajjak said the people had been abducted from the Afghan border town of Rabat some 20 days ago. He said a crackdown had been launched against criminals and five abductors had been arrested in raids.
