Law reigns supreme today, says Hamza after LHC order
High court had barred NAB to arrest PML-N leader from his residence till Monday, April 8
Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz has termed the Lahore High Court’s decision of restraining the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting the former as ‘victory of law’s supremacy’.
Addressing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) worker and supporters, who had gathered outside his residence in Lahore to resist his arrest on Saturday, Hamza said nobody had won today other than the supremacy of law, Express News reported.
“What compelled NAB team to violate sanctity of my home? What made them breach boundary of my residence and confined me like a terrorist?” he questioned.
Strongly condemning the NAB raid, the PML-N leader said the high court had ordered NAB officials to inform him about any attempts to arrest him at least 10 days in advance. However, NAB has gone blind in connivance with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, he added.
LHC bars NAB from arresting Hamza Shehbaz till Monday
Hamza said the whole world was watching NAB’s action and state’s oppression. He once again urged the party workers to be patient and remain peaceful to stand the test of time.
The high court had barred the NAB team from arresting Hamza Shehbaz till Monday, April 8. The order was passed by the LHC chief justice on a petition filed by Hamza’s lawyer.
The petition stated that NAB officials had turned up at his house with arrest warrants without any prior notice. The petition demanded the suspension of the arrest warrants and asked for action to be taken against NAB for contempt of court.
Earlier in the day, a NAB team accompanied by a contingent of police officials reached Shehbaz Sharif’s Model Town residence to arrest son Hamza in cases of owning assets beyond means.
The NAB team was faced by many PML-N supporters and eventually sought the help of Punjab Rangers as Hamza refused to surrender.
