Anti-Labour Policies: WAPDA workers stage sit-in
The protesters shouted slogans against the government’s policies on labour rights.
SANGHAR:
Hundreds of workers of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) staged a sit-in in front of the press club and blocked Mirpurkhas Road. They accused the government of adopting anti-labour policies under the pressures of the IMF and the World Bank. The protesters were surprised with what they said was the government’s laidback approach to the development of the Thar coal reserves, which, according to them, can produce 50,000 megawatts - well in excess of the needed 20,000 megawatts. As they walked from Wapda’s office to the press club, the protesters shouted slogans against the government’s policies on labour rights.
