APHC calls for shutdown

APHC has called for a complete shutdown in Indian held Kashmir ahead of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit.

SRINAGAR:

All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called for a complete shutdown in Indian held Kashmir ahead of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit on Monday.



Singh is expected to arrive in Srinagar this afternoon. Markets are shut across Srinagar while public transport has been suspended. Schools and business establishments are also closed.


Restrictions have been imposed in parts of the Kashmiri capital to prevent possible violence as Manmohan Singh is due to arrive.


Police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force are deployed in strength to thwart violence in five police station areas of the old city.
