Anwar handed four-month ban over doping

Athlete stripped of his national championship silver medal.

KARACHI:

A three-member inquiry committee imposed a four-month ban on Pakistan Army’s Mohammad Anwar after he failed a dope test during the National Athletics Championship that was held in Lahore.

The panel, headed by Colonel Qaiser Mustafa, imposed the ban after a hearing at the Pakistan Sports Board in Islamabad. Anwar was also stripped of the silver medal he bagged in the national championship.

“After analysing all the aspects, the committee reached a unanimous decision that the athlete was guilty of taking prohibited substances,” said the Anti-Doping Organisation of Pakistan (ADOP) in a statement.

Anwar has been given the right to appeal against his ban.

The ADOP had also imposed bans on five athletes including three cyclists and two bodybuilders over failed dope test in January.
