Immigration officer removed for slapping passenger
FIA’s shift officials have already apologized to the traveller
RAWALPINDI:
An immigration official among two officials at the new Islamabad International Airport (IIA) has been transferred from the facility after one official slapped a passenger over a minor tiff.
Sources said that despite the fact large sums of treasure were spent to install a modern monitoring system at the new airport — which provides a live stream feed to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) headquarters and the Federal Interior Ministry— episodes of bad behaviour with passengers keep cropping up.
E-passport to be issued within two months
In the latest episode, Rawalpindi-based Umer landed at the airport after flying in from Dammam in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
At the immigration counter, he presented his travel documents like everyone else.
During this process, he had exchanged some harsh words with the officials and FIA Official Kamran allegedly slapped him.
This turned the situation in the immigration lounge tense and FIA’s shift officials had to intervene to stabilise the situation by apologizing to the traveller.
Umer then departed the airport.
When asked, FIA Immigration Deputy Director Sajid Khokhar confirmed the incident to Daily Express.
