Zardari broke promises: Sharif
PML-N chief declares that Musharraf should be tried for treason.
MUZAFFARABAD:
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief lambasted the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government for a second consecutive day and attacked President Zardari and former president Pervez Musharraf while campaigning on behalf of PML-N and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidates for the Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections.
“The incumbent government and spy agencies have steered the country into crises,” said Nawaz Sharif to a crowd of reportedly over 10,000 supporters in district Bagh, about 100 kilometres from Muzaffarabad.
There is immense corruption in every department and even Haj affairs have not been spared, he said, adding that the PPP government has set new records of corruption during their present tenure.
Sharif is on a five-day whirlwind tour of the territory, which will hold its legislative elections on June 26. He has been campaigning on behalf of several candidates for his party, but appears to be fighting a losing battle: most analysts predict a victory for the PPP in the AJK assembly.
Jibes and promises
Sharif declared that Musharraf should be brought back to Pakistan and tried for treason.
He chided the former general for giving in to US pressure, claiming that he had resisted the American pressure when testing the nuclear weapons.
He also slammed President Zardari for “not keeping up the promises he made for strengthening of democracy.”
Sharif said his government would link all districts of Kashmir with Islamabad through motorways. He promised a network of motorways “from Tao Butt to Bhimber, if elected to power.”
On Kashmir dispute, he said that no solution can be imposed on Kashmiris except one that is crafted under relevant UN resolutions on Kashmir.
Sharif will address the last election campaign rally in Patihika on June 24.
