Merit Policy: Bank appointment challenged
The petitioner questioned validity of Khan’s degrees from foreign universities.

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the boards of governors of the State Bank of Pakistan and the Bank of Punjab (BoP) on a writ petition challenging the appointment of the BoP president. Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh passed the order on a petition by Advocate Shahid Shakeel. He submitted that that rules and regulations had been ignored in appointing Naeemuddin Khan as BoP president. The petitioner questioned validity of Khan’s degrees from foreign universities. He said the respondent was not eligible for the post and the authorities had appointed him in violation of merit. He asked the court to set aside the appointment.The judge after hearing initial arguments sought replies within two weeks from the boards of governors of both banks.
