Drug Free City: Police target top 100 dealers

CCPO Tahir said drug seizures by the police had increased this month under the drug-free city campaign.

LAHORE:

The police have drawn up a list of 100 dealers in the city and are preparing to raid their dens as part of the Lahore Drug Free City project, said Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir on Tuesday.

Chairing a meeting regarding the project, the police chief said that SP-led enforcement teams had been set up at the division level and included the station house officer, Anti Narcotics Force official, excise inspector and drug inspector concerned. These teams will tackle the drug dealers on the police’s top 100 list.

The CCPO said Police Emergency 15 was giving information about narcotics cases to SPs, whereas a comprehensive list was also being prepared for the rehabilitation of drug users.

Tahir said drug seizures by the police had increased this month under the drug-free city campaign. But drug use could not be eliminated merely by police action; that required “raising the collective consciousness,” he said.
