Two killed in CNG cylinder explosion in North Karachi

Two persons were killed and four others injured when a gas cylinder exploded at a CNG station in North Karachi on Sunday.

According to police sources, a fire broke out in the compressor room of the filling station after a CNG gas cylinder exploded near Powerhouse Chowrangi. As a result, two persons Saqib and the pump owner Muhammad Rashid died while four others identified as Faqeer Muhammad, Hamza, Moheed and Zarnis sustained injuries. The deceased and the injured were shifted to hospitals.


A fire brigade reached the scene soon after the explosion and extinguished the flames. A large contingent of law enforcement agencies also reached the site and sealed the gas station.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shalwani to take immediate steps to enforce a complete ban on low standard CNG cylinders. He sought a detailed report of the incident and directed relevant authorities to provide the best medical facilities to those injured.
