QUETTA:
Traditional fervour and vigour was on display during Pakistan Day celebrations across the province as people of Balochistan showed their love for the motherland.

The day began with a 21-gun salute and flag-hoisting ceremony in the provincial capital, while different organisations and parties held rallies and ceremonial events in different cities of Balochistan, including Quetta.

Pakistan Baloch Unity held a rally from Sariab Road to Quetta Press Club. Pakistan Baloch Unity Chairman Mir Khuda Bux Mari led the rally with participants carrying a 300-metre-long Pakistani flag. They also chanted patriotic slogans to show their love for the country.

In Pishin, a flag-hoisting ceremony was held at a rest house to mark the day. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aurangzeb Badeni presided over the ceremony in which District Police Officer Tariq Elahi Mastoi hoisted the flag. Police personnel marched on the occasion to the tune of a band, while the national anthem was also played.

The deputy commissioner said March 23 was an historic date for the country. “It was on this day that the Pakistan Resolution, the landmark document seeking a separate Muslim state for the Muslims of the Subcontinent was passed in 1940,” said Badeni.

The deputy commissioner distributed certificates among the family members of martyred Levies officials and paid tribute to them. Tribal leaders, politicians, community leaders and district officers attended the ceremony.

Meanwhile, a ceremony was held to mark the day at the Frontier Corps (FC) Headquarters in Nushki. FC Commandant Colonel Azhar Ali Shiraz, DC Razzaq Baloch and Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Asif hoisted the national flag. An exhibition of weaponry was also held on the occasion. Later, the Nushki FC commandant hoisted the flag during a ceremony in Chagai.
