Residents protest Lyari gang war
Residents of the Ali Muhammad Muhalla blocked Mauripur Road in Kalri near Crown Cinema on Sunday in protest against the ongoing Lyari gang war.
Protesters also threw stones at cars after which traffic on Mauripur Road was suspended for several hours. They conducted a sit-in on the road and shouted slogans against the police and the city administration for not taking measures to stop the killings. Residents said that they have been trapped in their houses for the past four days as a result of the administration’s negligence, because of which the have been unable to replenish their food rations. They also said that stray bullets have been making their way inside homes and injuring their family members.
Despite the efforts of the police and Rangers in trying to disperse the crowd, the people continued their protest on the Mauripur Road for three hours, after which, officials reached the scene and took a number of people to the Lyari SP Office for negotiations. The residents later allowed the police to remove the blockades and get traffic back to normal.
