Industry insiders including Nadia Jamil, Mawra Hocane, Fahad Mustafa and Ali Zafar shared their two cents
The hashtag #StopChildSexAbuse is currently trending on Twitter and numerous showbiz insiders have taken to social media to speak about this.
Actor Nadia Jamil was one of the first to share a post regarding this topic. In a bid to raise awareness surrounding this matter, Jamil spoke about the importance of child sex abuse in an emotional video message.
"Tomorrow in Lahore, at 1pm, a very important conference will be held," she began, in a video posted two days ago. "We have been reading and hearing about such incidents in newspapers and on the TV since our childhood," she stated, quoting the Kasur incident. "A lot of children didn't get justice." She proceeded to mention Zainab's case, and the latest case of Khadija Batool.
The Manto actor then went on to reveal her own experience, "Many kids are able to survive, I am one of them. But there are many who don't survive, there are others who's names aren't even mentioned. This happens to children in their homes, in schools, birthday parties... I have even worked with youngsters who fall prey to their own fathers and brothers."
She continued, "We have to take care of our kids. Please support this campaign. Let's find a solution and see how we can better protect our loved ones. There will be many survivors sharing their stories, giving confidence to others to speak up. There will also be many other important speakers." Jamil reiterated that they want to bring an end to this torture and find a solution. "Please #StopChildSexAbuse. Work with us against it. Pakistan Zindabad."
Actor Fahad Mustafa retweeted her message.
Actor Mawra Hocane, who is an advocate for the movement, attended and spoke at the conference. Barrister and Activist Hassaan Niazi took to Twitter to express his appreciation. "Thank you Advocate and super star Mawra Hocane - you made a heart touching speech. Your presence made a big difference to the conference for protection of childhood. Hoping to see you soon fighting some great cases as well. Inshallah #StopChildSexAbuse."
In response, Mawra wrote, "Thank you! I’m so grateful and honoured to be a minuscule part of your extra-ordinary efforts towards such an important cause! #StopChildSexAbuse. I hope we can collaborate on many other matters that require our attention and time! I’m so proud of all the rape and sodomy survivors."
Singer-actor Ali Zafar also shared the poster for the campaign on his Twitter.
