Medical research urged in ailments affecting remote areas of K-P

Undergraduate Medical Research Conference sees deliberations on stress management

PESHAWAR: Researchers should focus on health issues affecting the people in remote areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, said Ripah University Islamabad VC Dr Anis Ahmad on day-one of the 12th two-day Undergraduate Medical Research (UMR) Conference which concluded at Peshawar Medical & Dental College, Warsak Road.

The conference was attended by representatives of various institutions across the country including Hamdard University Karachi, University of Faisalabad, Ayub Medical College Abbottabad, Islamic International Medical College Islamabad, Khyber Medical College, Khyber Girls Medical College, Khyber College of Dentistry, Pakistan International Medical College, Abasyn University, Kabir Medical College, Rehman College of Dentistry, Rehman Medical College and Sardar Begum Dental College.

First day of the conference consisted of a plenary by the chief guest of the day, Dr Anis Ahmad who talked in detail about the importance of research and how it can benefit mankind in numerous forms.

Afterwards a well-attended workshop was conducted by Dr Muhammad Irfan on evidence-based stress management.

The second day of the moot started off with a plenary session by Dr Najibul Haq, Dean of PMC, on the topic Translating Research into Action.

He explained how to implement a research into the real world. The event continued with poster and verbal competition happening simultaneously. It was a hub of activity with students from all over the country presenting their researches in the form of posters and presentations.

The event wrapped up on an encouraging note by the Vice Chancellor of Peshawar University Dr Asif Khan. This was followed by the presidential address by the president of UMR, Muhammad Nabeel Hayat.

The quiz competition was won by the team from Islamic International Medical College Islamabad. The winner of Poster competitions in the category of Public Health was Azim Arif Hashimi, in Medical Education category, Tayyaba Farooq of Islamic International Medical College and in the category of Clinical Sciences was Shah Faisal from Bacha Khan University, Charsadda. The winner of competitions in the category of Public Health was Tariq Shah from Peshawar Medical College, in Medical Education category, Aminah Saqib of Peshawar Medical College and in the category of Clinical Sciences, it was Namana Minhas from Islamic International Medical College who secured the winner position. The conference that spanned two days was a grand success. The Institute hopes for the next conference to be bigger and better than before.
