Premier pays tribute to Fatima Jinnah on International Women's Day

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday reaffirmed his commitment to provide women of the country with a secure and enabling environment to ensure they play their rightful role in the development of the nation.

Rally planned to mark International Women’s Day

In a message to commemorate International Woman's Day, the premier paid tribute to Fatima Jinnah "for remaining steadfast and standing beside Quaid-e-Azam in his struggle for Pakistan".

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also appreciated contributions made by Pakistani women.

A statement issued by Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor quoted the army chief as saying that "the great Pakistani women have a role and responsibility towards the progress of Pakistan".



In December, President Arif Alvi expressed deep concern on the plight of Pakistani women. It was unfortunate that Pakistan stood second from the bottom in terms of gender equality, he said while addressing a ceremony in Hassan Abdal.

According to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Gender Gap Report 2018, Pakistan had been listed among the worst performers in the world when it came to women empowerment.
