LAHORE: PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif met his elder brother, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, in the Kot Lakhpat Jail on Saturday.

According to party sources, the purpose of the meeting was to brief Nawaz on the latest geopolitical situation, especially the tensions with India. Court cases against the Sharif family were also discussed during the meeting. Shehbaz also reportedly inquired about Nawaz Sharif’s health.

The former premier had been moved back to the Kot Lakhpat Jail after the government had apparently failed to determine the future course of his treatment. The former prime minister’s personal physician, Dr Adnan Khan, had tweeted after meeting him at the Kot Lakhpat Jail on Thursday that he was not being provided adequate medical attention despite a life-threatening heart condition, adding that the authorities’ callousness regarding the serious health condition of the three-time prime minister was mind-boggling.

The government had moved Nawaz to Jinnah Hospital on the 15th of February on the request of his personal physician, the second time that he had been moved to a hospital from the Kot Lakhpat Jail in the month. Earlier, on the 2nd of February, he had been shifted to the Services Hospital upon the recommendation of a special medical board which had recommended that Nawaz be shifted to a multidisciplinary health facility for checkups. However, Nawaz had refused to undergo any further checkups after only three days at the hospital and had been shifted back to the jail on the 7th of February.

But only two days after the former prime minister’s return to the Kot Lakhpat Jail on his own request, his personal physician had, via a letter to the Home Department, requested the government to take into consideration the recommendation of the medical board that Nawaz be shifted to a cardiac facility. As a result, the government had decided to shift Nawaz to Jinnah Hospital.
