Emergency centres to be set up on highways

Rs3.5b allocated for establishment of response service

ISLAMABAD: The provincial government has planned to establish medical emergency and response centres on the highways of the province in order to provide ambulance service and first aid to cater to road accidents and emergency situations, official sources said on Friday.

The source said the government had allocated an amount of Rs 3.5 billion for establishing the centres on the main highways and had been already released the amount of Rs 340 million to expedite development process of these centres. He said that every centre would consist of two ambulances and fire brigade vehicle with fully equipped and trained staff.

The setting up of such service would benefit the people and also help mitigate loss of life during accidents and emergencies, he added.

He said that the provincial health department would be supervising the programme of emergency centres on highways and the department would be connected with district headquarters hospital according to the plan.

Furthermore, he added that the well-known and sustainable non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have expressed confidence in the policies of the Balochistan government, while expressing their interest to work on partnership basis for improvement of health care and educational services in the province.

"The provincial government appreciates their willingness to work for the welfare of humanity and the government would extend every possible support to them," the official maintained. He said all stakeholders were joining hands with the provincial government for the betterment of service delivery and governance in the province.
