Wildlife officials nab illegal bird trader
Accused used to transport birds to major cities during night time and would sell them to buyers

Wildlife department officials arrested a man on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in illegally trading birds in Vehari.
Vehari Wildlife Divisional Incharge Muneer Ahmed told Express News that officials launched a crackdown against illegal hunting.
He added that a team, including Inspector Malik Zohaib Zafar, raided a spot in Bhatta Ikram area and nabbed Muhammad Amin.
He revealed that several bird species, being hunted illegally, were seized from the possession of the suspect. Muneer mentioned that the accused would transport the birds to major cities during the night time and sell them to potential buyers. He pointed out that a fine of Rs10,000 was also imposed on the suspect.
The wildlife officer said that complete efforts were being made to stop the illegal hunting of birds and animals. He elaborated that the teams of wildlife department were conducting raids on a daily basis to nab those involved in illegal activity. He warned that those hunting without a valid licence and legal permission will be dealt with an iron hand.
On February 25, the wildlife department officials arrested a hunter after a brief shoot-out in Cholistan area.
Reportedly, District Wildlife Officer Mujahid Kaleem and his team were on routine patrolling in Cholistan when they received information that a group of poachers was involved in illegal hunting of deer in Toba Thori Bund area.
On the tip-off, the wildlife team and security officials of Abu Dhabi Palace situated in the vicinity spotted the hunters and ordered them to surrender.
When the poachers saw the wildlife officials, they opened fire on them and tried to escape. The wildlife team retaliated and during the shoot-out, one of the hunters was taken into custody, while seven others, including Manzoor Bhatti, Ghulam Farid, Abdul Shakoor and Amjad fled the scene. The arrested accused was identified as Haji Tahir, a resident of Liaquatpur.
