Growth Objective: Finland picks new economy minister

The new six-party government unveiled its programme aiming to cut spending and raise some taxes

The National Coalition party of Finland’s prime minister-elect named Jyri Hakamies on Saturday as the new economy minister. The new six-party government, led by prime minister-elect Jyrki Katainen, unveiled its programme on Friday aiming to cut spending and raise some taxes to maintain the Nordic country’s strong fiscal health. “The most important thing for me will be creating growth. There will be strong improvements in industry’s operating circumstances, energy taxation will be cut and investments will be made in mining sector,” Hakamies told Reuters after his appointment.
