RAWALPINDI:
Traders and the premier horticultural body of the garrison city have decided to work together to revive and enhance the natural beauty of the city.

In this regard, the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) of Rawalpindi have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

PHA Chairman Asif Mahmood and RCCI President Malik Shahid Saleem signed and exchanged the documents at a ceremony held at Rawalpindi Chamber House.

Under the agreement, RCCI and PHA will work together in promoting a clean environment, beautifying crossroads, pavements, better design of parks and revival of the city’s heritage. Mahmood said that Rawalpindi is ranked amongst the top ten most polluted cities in the world and that they were working hard to improve this ranking over the next few years. For this purpose, he said that plantation drives will also be organised for the awareness of the public in general to highlight the significance of maintaining cleanliness of the city. To do this, students will be taken on board and will be included in the awareness campaigns, he added.

He lauded RCCI’s efforts for launching the “Glorious Rawalpindi” project, which aims to revive the beauty and heritage of the city. RCCI President Malik Shahid Saleem termed the agreement a great success and said that this will help make Rawalpindi a hub for tourism since it was ideally located at the gateway to Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).
