An official of Saddar police station said that S*, a resident of Mian Channu, submitted a complaint, stating she was a married woman and lived with her husband in Chak No 15.

The woman mentioned that she contacted Saifullah in this regard, who promised to help her renew the passport.

The victim lamented that on the day of the incident, the accused asked her to reach Lahore Morr so they could go to the passport office.

The woman highlighted that she believed the suspect and reached the spot. She revealed the culprit took her to an abandoned house on a motorcycle and locked her in a room.

S* stated the accused allegedly raped her and hurled death threats if she informed anyone about the incident.

The victim said after committing the heinous act, the culprit fled the scene leaving her in injured condition.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case against the suspect and conducted raids to arrest him.

During the current year, cases of sexual abuse have been on the rise across Punjab. Despite these incidents occurring on a daily basis, the government’s counter measures have been largely disappointing.

Most cases have been reported from Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala, Kasur and other parts of the province. The victims include women and minor girls or boys.

Earlier, a report issued by NGO Sahil revealed that the highest incidents of sexual abuse involving children were recorded in Punjab. While commenting on the matter, Sahil executive director Manizeh Bano said the sexual exploitation of women and children across Punjab had been reported over many years.

She added hundreds of rape cases have been identified, but only a few victims have come forward to seek justice.
