President’s wife to be nominated for Girl Guide body
The position of the chairperson, though, is the only honorary
ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Girl Guides Association has written to the Presidency, expressing the hope it will nominate First Lady Samina Alvi as its next chairperson.
Sources said that according to the Constitution, either the wife of the Prime Minister or of the President can be elected to the position.
Elections will also be held on posts of the federal and provincial associations.
The Girl Guides are associated with the Ministry of National Heritage and Education and hence are bound to hold their elections as per the law.
The position of the chairperson, though, is only honorary.
An official of the Girl Guides told Daily Express that once they receive the green signal from the Presidency, they will formally nominate the first lady Samina.
The post was previously held by Kulsoom Nawaz, the deceased wife of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
