Girls show talent in track and field

SBBWU hosts inter-college athletic tournament

PESHAWAR:
The inter-colleges girls athletics championship kicked off at Qayyum Stadium Peshawar on Tuesday.

Athletes from 13 colleges associated with the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Peshawar are taking part in the games, a press release said.

Over a hundred female students were competing in the track and field events on day-one of the event.

In High jump, Rani from Government Degree Collage Bacha Khan stood first, Nazim clinched second position while Sara of BBWU stood third.


In Javelin Throw Bacha Khan College’s Rani got gold, Frontier College for Women’s Kalsoom got silver and City College Gulbahar’s Nazish secured bronze medal.

Promising athlete Ayseha Khan guided SBBWU to clinch the overall trophy by securing 32 points while Govt Girls College Bacha Khan and Frontier College for Women remained at second and third positions respectively in SSBWU Inter-College Women Athletic Championship played at Qayyum Sports Complex.

Ayesha claimed gold medals for 100m, 200m, long jump, silver medals in 400m and discus throw and bronze medal in javelin throw. She alone got overall 22 points and was declared best athlete for the fifth consecutive years.

Talking to Daily Express, students said that though boys get to have numerous sports events, the opportunities for girl athlete were limited. They urged the provincial government to promote sportswomen and hold more such events.
