Currently, mobile phone banking is being implemented in eight districts across the country
ISLAMABAD:
President Asif Ali Zardari launched on Friday the mobile banking services for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). Speaking at the ceremony held at the Presidency, he said that mobile banking would ensure that money was paid to BISP beneficiaries in a speedy and transparent manner. Stressing that welfare of the people was the government’s top priority, he said that so far more than 6,500 people had benefited from BISP’s Waseela-e-Haq scheme that aims to empower women. The BISP, he said, will also cover programmes for health insurance, vocational training and interest-free financing for self-employment. Currently, mobile phone banking is being implemented in eight districts across the country and more than 300,000 free mobile phones have been provided to BISP beneficiaries.
