Copyright: IPO sets up help desk at Karachi Chamber

Helpline aims to promote investment, economic activity.

KARACHI:

The Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) has established its first help desk at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) where it will receive complaints and address issues pertaining to copyright and patents.

IPO Chairman Hameedullah Jan Afridi inaugurated the facility on Friday. “The helpline will promote investment, economic activity and protect rights of companies facing copyright, trademark and patent problems,” he said while speaking to members of KCCI.

He said soon IPO would establish help desks at other chambers of commerce and trade associations and create mass awareness of intellectual property rights. “All complaints and registration of products would be expedited through the desk,” he added.

Chairman KCCI Committee on World Trade Organisation, Intellectual Property Rights and Environment, Saboor Ahmed, said implementation of IPR would make businesses more successful and competitive in domestic and international markets. “Protection of inventions is the right of the owner of any product,” he stressed.
