Islamabad Police arrest around 1,000 murder suspects in past month

At least two murder cases solved, two suspects arrested

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have claimed to have arrested 998 outlaws over the past 30 days and recovered stolen items worth more than Rs75.6 million, including 38 cars and 27 motorbikes from them.

A police spokesperson said that during the month, they had solved as many as 50 cases of robbery and 97 suspected robbers were arrested besides recovering stolen items worth Rs15.4 million, including gold ornaments from them.

Police also claimed to have nabbed 74 suspects in 52 cases of street crime and theft and recovered looted items worth Rs16.4 million. Further, as many as 14 people were held for their involvement in 16 cases of car theft while eight vehicles were also recovered from them.

Moreover, police claimed to have arrested 27 motorbike thieves and recovered 19 bikes from their possession. A further 16 people were held for their involvement in tampering with vehicles and 22 vehicles were recovered from them.

Police also arrested 195 absconders during this period, including 103 proclaimed offenders and 92 absconders.

Moreover, police held 229 people for their suspected involvement in bootlegging and drug peddling activities while 99.209 kilogrammes of hashish, nine kilogrammes of heroin, 1.31kgs of opium, 698 grammes of crystal methamphetamine (ice), 10 grammes of cocaine and 1,326 bottles of wines were recovered from them.

The Islamabad Police, the official said, had launched a special crackdown against those involved in supplying drugs at educational institutions and nabbed six suspected drug peddlers and registered four cases against them. A total of 5.15kgs of hashish, 325 grammes of heroin were recovered from them.

Police also arrested 112 people for carrying illegal weapons and recovered three Kalashnikovs, four carbines, 97 pistols and 785 rounds from them.

Moreover, two murder cases were solved and two people suspected to be involved in them were nabbed during this period.

During a campaign against professional beggars, as many as 943 beggars were arrested while30 habitual culprits were also held during the same period. Further, 20 people were caught red-handed while planning to commit robberies.

Moreover, three foreigners were also arrested under the Foreigners' Act for living illegally in the country.

The Islamabad Police arrested seven people for allegedly firing into the air and six cases were registered against them.
