LAHORE:

An Ichhra resident has refused to comply with an environment protection order (EPO) directing him to change the alignment of his air conditioner’s exhaust.

Two days ago, an EPO was issued after an Environment Protection Department (EPD) inspector visited the site. The resident’s neighbour had complained to the EPD that hot air from the AC was entering his house as his window faced it. The complainant approached the EPD for action after his neighbor refused his request to shift the AC or change the direction of the exhaust. A decision in the case will be taken today (Saturday). Younas Zahid, the EPD’s deputy district officer, told The Express Tribune he had warned the Ichhra resident under Clause 146 (b) of the Pakistan Local Government Ordinance (PLGO) which permits an inspector to demolish or confiscate any structure or device interrupting public order. Instead of relocating the AC, he said he had sent his lawyer to talk to the EPD officials.
