Close aide of Lyari commando held
KARACHI:
A close aide of Razzaq Commando from the Lyari gang wars was arrested from Mauripur Road by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) police on Saturday.
CID police conducted a raid on Maripur Road and arrested Yousuf Pathan with five kilogrammes of hashish, a pistol and a motorcycle.
Pathan used to rent out weapons to the land mafia. Two of his other accomplices, Nawab and Ghulam Sheeren, managed to escape, while two other accomplices Altaf and Tahir Hussain have already been held by the CID police.
During their arrest, the police seized a large amount of weapons that Pathan had in his custody.
During investigations, Pathan admitted that he forcibly had his brother released by holding the staff of the SITE police station hostage. He was earlier arrested by Mominabad and SITE Police for selling weapons. He said that he brought arms from Peshawar in a bus through Noor Rahman to supply it to the land mafia.
The police said that Pathan and his accomplices were wanted in more than 25 cases, including three in CID, 10 in SITE police station and one case in the excise department for narcotics.
Battle between Lyari groups intensifies
The battle between two groups has intensified in Lyari as the brother of a wanted suspect was killed along with his aides. More than a dozen people have been killed in the clashes in Lyari over the past four days.
DIG South Iqbal Mahmood said that Sattar Zikri, the younger brother of Ghaffar Zikri, along with his aides was killed in firing. Gunshots resonated in the Lyari neighbourhood on Saturday as people were forced to stay indoors. The police and Rangers have increased patrolling in armoured personnel carriers.
