A raiding police team was beaten and held hostage by more than a dozen accused in Lodhran, Express News reported on Monday.
An official from Jalla Arain police station said a law enforcement team conducted a raid in Chak No 99-M to arrest Javed Baloch, who was wanted in a robbery case.
He added when the policemen entered the suspect’s hideout in the area, more than a dozen accomplices of the culprit, including his brother Ghulam Nazuk, attacked the officials with sticks and rods.
He said the accused misbehaved with the cops and they physically assaulted Sub-Inspector Ghulam Ali along with five other police constables. The accused snatched Rs7,000 from the police team. The suspects tore the officials’ uniform and snatched their weapons, he mentioned.
He said the outlaws also recorded a video of the incident. Later, the official said the criminals locked the police team in a room and fled.
The official maintained that after some time, the policemen managed to escape from the house and reached the police station. A case has been registered against Javed, Ghulam Nazuk and several others, while raids are being conducted to arrest them.
In a similar incident that took place in Muzaffargarh a few days ago, a police team was held hostage by villagers.
Reportedly, a police team conducted a raid in Basti Sohni Wala to arrest an individual wanted in a rape case. When the cops entered one of the houses, several villagers attacked the officials with sticks.
The villagers beat Sub-Inspector Ilyas and Constable Arif before locking them in a room. The accused also snatched their weapons.
After some time, a heavy contingent of the force reached the spot and freed the detained policemen from the villagers.
