LAHORE:

A spokesperson for the Sharif family has said that the Punjab chief minister’s foreign assets are valued at just Rs30 million.

In a statement released on Friday, the spokesperson said that the media had incorrectly reported that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif owned Rs170 million in foreign assets. His total assets are worth Rs489.6 million.

The spokesperson said that his assets were worth only Rs30 million, while Rs140 million were loans that he had gotten from various sources, including Rs80 million in bank loans.

rashid khan | 13 years ago | Reply Why are Sharif hesitant to speak about their assets themselves- they always needs spokesperson? Even president of the USA presented his birth certificate to the nation, are the Sharifs royals, who always needs some one to speak on their behalf? A statement made personally about personal such sensitive details lends credibility and shows that they have nothing to hide. The moment questions are raised about their wealth (fair or ill gotten) the Sharifs become ostriches with their heads. Yet, the two brothers constantly pontificate on issues of transparency and honesty. Who can begrudge them – they have the needed line of hanger-ons at their beck and call and millions of illiterate constituents who fall for their hypocrisy.
Mirza | 13 years ago | Reply @Ali: PML-N is not going to contest elections alone, they never did. In fact there is a good chance that Imran Khan, JI and other such parties would make an election alliance with PML-N and the Lota group. When Imran Khan can make adjustments with MQM, then everything is possible. Without such alliance none of these parties have much chance. Sorry, did not mean to hurt your feelings. Regards, Mirz
