Gang of thieves busted in federal capital

Children found seeking alms on the roads of Rawalpindi handed over to Child Protection Bureau

The Islamabad Police have busted a gang of thieves and recovered stolen valuables, including cell phones and weapons from their possession, a police spokesperson has said.

Following directions from Operations-SSP Waqaruddin Syed, Saddar Zone - SP Malik Naeem Iqbal constituted a special team under the supervision of Karachi Company SHO Habibur Rehman, ASI Haider Ali Shah and others to curb criminal activities and to arrest those involved in incidents of theft in the area.

The team worked hard and succeeded to bust a three-member gang of thieves.

The suspected thieves have been identified as Zafar, Nazeer and Javed. They are residents of Okara district. The police also claimed to have recovered stolen mobile phones, watches along with two 30 bore pistols from them.

They have been booked and the police are conducting further investigations. They hope to recover more weapons from them.

SSP Syed has appreciated the performance of the Karachi Company police and directed all police officials to maintain high vigilance and monitor those involved in anti-social activities.

Pindi police

The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) has rounded up 417 beggars from across the city in January while several cases also were registered against beggars during this period.


According to the Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Muhammad Bin Ashraf, CTP was trying to eliminate begging from the city’s roads. He added that children found seeking alms on the roads of the garrison city were handed over to the Child Protection Bureau while the adults were handed over to the police.

He further said that a special anti-begging squad comprising an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), six constables and a lady constable, were working to nab beggars in the city. This squad has been directed to book beggars and a report in this regard should be sent to the CTO’s office, he added.

CTO Ashraf added that action will be taken against beggars creating problems for road users in accordance with the law.

Renovating stations

Rawal Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Maqsood has said that they were taking steps to establish new police stations and to renovate the old and dilapidated buildings of existing precincts.

Talking to APP, he admitted that most police station buildings look worn out, including the Ratta Amral station, Chuntra station, Pirwadhai station, Naseerabad station, Murree station, and the Gujjar Khan police station.

He added that they have dispatched letters seeking approval to renovate these buildings. Moreover, a meeting has been held for the construction of a new police station in Pirwadhai and soon work on its construction would start. Further, the new building of the Murree police station was ready and that officers will move into the building after the recent spell of snow ends.
