Court approves five-day transit remand of Kamran Micheal
Former federal minister will be shifted to Karachi for investigation
LAHORE:
An accountability court handed over Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister for ports and shipping Kamran Michael to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on a five-day transit remand for investigation into allegations of illegal allotment of Karachi Port Trust land.
Michael, who was arrested a day earlier by NAB for misusing his authority as a federal minister, will be shifted to Karachi for investigation.
Michael’s counsel argued that his client had no link with the allotment of plots. The court remarked that the matter would be debated in the Karachi court.

According to the NAB spokesperson, the former federal minister had misused his authority by influencing the officials to carry out his orders of making allotments of plots worth Rs1.5 billion in 2013.
He had added that NAB was also investigating a corruption reference filed in a separate probe involving 16 other plots.
Michael has been a senator on a minority seat since 2012. He was a minister in the governments of former premiers Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
In May 2018, NAB had reportedly launched a probe against Michael for allegedly accumulating assets beyond known sources of income during his stint as the ports and shipping minister.
