KARACHI:
Further steps are needed on the part of government to increase exports of the country, said Pakistan Weaving Mills Association (PWMA) Chairman Yousuf Yaqoob Prince. He lauded Prime Minister’s Adviser on Trade and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood for the steps taken recently by the government in the mini-budget. He, however, said the government raised the prices of gas and electricity in the range of 6.5% to 7.5%, causing difficulties for the small industries. In his statement, the chairman said, while considering the additional burden of GIDC, the government acknowledged it and excluded the textile sector from the levy. He demanded that the government immediately waive GIDC dues so that the weaving industry could survive.
