Sixth film from SOC Film's 'Aagahi' series educates women on 'khula'
Video shows each and every step of filing for divorce, clearly explaining the rights females have

Award-winning film-maker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has always stood out for her creative productions and her latest series is no different. The activist has commenced a campaign titled Aagahi which aims to create awareness among women and educate them of their legal rights.
A short clip titled Khula Lene Ka Tareeqa (Filing for divorce) was shared on the official Facebook page with a description that read, "This short video in the Aagahi (awareness) series explains the process of filing for a khula (divorce) through the courts. The video answers questions about registering the divorce, who keeps custody of the children, and whether or not the wife has to return the mehr."
The post went on to read, "We thank Aamina Sheikh for graciously lending her voice for the campaign as well as the Womens Action Forum Karachi Chapter for their support and guidance with this project."
This is the sixth installment from the series. The video begins with describing the difference between talaq and khula. It then goes through each and every step of filing for divorce, clearly explaining the rights women have. The clip also eradicates the confusion surrounding the custody of children and details the authority women have.
The Aagahi series features 14 short animated films with the aim to explain legislation that affects women and how they may be applied. To cater to all women in Pakistan, the videos are released in Urdu with English subtitles. However, later videos might also feature regional languages.
The first episode of the series informs people on ‘How to Register an FIR (First Information Report)’. The second and third shed light on domestic violence. The fourth shows information on what a woman should know before signing her Nikkah-nama. The fifth showcases the process of divorce in Pakistan.
