K-P govt to convert Governor House into museum

PESHAWAR: On the directive of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has approved making Governor House the provincial museum.

According to a K-P government statement, Governor House has been handed over to the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, while the sprawling lawn of Governor House will be made a botanical garden.

Following PM’s directive, a survey was conducted to take inventory of antiques and valuable items in the early 20th century relic of British Raj.

Earlier, Governor Shah Farman had opened the palatial residence to girl students and families to visit two days a week.

Talking to the Express News, DOAM Director Dr Abdul Samad said that his department has received the notification of making Governor House a museum.

He further said that a botanical garden on the premises that has huge lawns and many years old trees.

He said that like any other museum, people will be charged entry fee to see the Governor House.

The present Peshawar Museum will be converted in to a Gandhara Museum.
