QUETTA:
Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri on Wednesday inaugurated the first ATM of Zarai Taraqiati Bank in Quetta and said agricultural development in the country is the government’s top priority.

During his address at the ceremony, Suri lamented that despite being an agricultural country, the sector has long been ignored but the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in its first 100 days made agriculture its top priority.

The ZTB has commenced ATM service in Balochistan to ease financial woes of its consumers. “The bank has been providing loans to farmers which have eased their woes,” he said emphasising the institution should develop effective strategies for provision of better business opportunities to farmers in the province along with facility of non-interest loans, in order to transform barren lands into fertile ones.

Talking about the recent drought and declining water level, the deputy speaker said such conditions have left negative effects on Balochistan’s agricultural sector and those associated with it.

“Despite being informed by experts the previous governments didn’t pay much attention to agriculture which remains the backbone of provincial economy,” Suri said, urging people to leave personal interests behind and prioritise national interests for development and prosperity of the people.

The deputy speaker called for an awareness campaign to be launched for farmers to guide them about crops that can be cultivated using less water and be agriculturally beneficial.

"I am glad to know ZTBL is not only working to provide better banking services to farmers and citizens, but also revolutionising and growing their network, in-line with modern digital banking system," he said, urging the bank to start a training program for farmers and landowners to enhance their skills.
