As ailing patients continue to suffer in various government-run hospitals across Sindh, a protest by the Young Doctors Association demanding a pay raise entered the third day on Wednesday.
According to the Express News, Out Patient Departments (OPD) in various government hospitals of Karachi including Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Civil Hospital and Lyari General Hospital, have closed down as a result of the ongoing strike.
Several OPDs in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Jam and other districts of the province also remained closed, causing undue stress to the patients and delaying their treatment.
Doctors in Sindh go on strike demanding pay raise
The protesting doctors are demanding an increase in salaries, health, and other allowances and insurance.
If their demands are not accepted, the doctors have announced a protest at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Thursday.
Meanwhile, they are also expected to meet Secretary Health Saeed Awan to discuss the matter further.
According to the doctors, the provincial government was given a week’s time to resolve their issues but the authorities paid no heed.
Earlier, they even threatened to expand the scale of their protests by closing emergency departments and the hospital wards.
