ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has summoned a meeting to establish the 9th National Financial Commission (NFC) award on February 6.

Representatives from the federation and all four provinces will take part in the meeting with the provinces set to apprise the federation on their current financial standing.

The federation and the four provinces are at loggerheads over getting the highest turnover income.

The provinces are unwilling to let their share be sliced, and want to increase their resources.

Sindh CM calls for revisiting NFC criteria

All the provinces have prepared a plan for the distribution of resources according to population, income from products and area.

The distribution of resources on the basis of population, however, after the new census, is to their advantage.

The commission formed during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz tenure will also be examined.

Finance Minister Asad Umar will be the NFC chairman while the provincial finance ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Balochistan will be represented by Dr Salman Shah, Asad Syed, Musharraf Rasool Siyan and Mahfouz Ali Khan respectively.

The federal secretary finance will be the official member.
