Recent rains breath life into mustard crops in K-P

Mustard fields not only signify the start of spring, they are also the most highly priced harvest

The recent bouts of rain in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) have not only helped boost the growth of mustard crops but have also raised the hopes of farmers in rain irrigated areas. Mustard is one of the most significant cash crops and it is usually sold at Rs5,000 per maund.

Apart from it's economic benefits, the mustard crop is also culturally very important for the people of K-P.

According to renowned poet, writer and columnist Saadullah Jan Bark, it is only and only when the first mustard flower blooms that spring is considered to officially start.

Bark also said that the mustard crop was grown mostly on rain-irrigated lands and provided a source of livelihood. Another feather in the mustard crops hat is that the cultivation process is easier than that for other crops.
