Massive power breakdown hits Balochistan, Sindh

Tripping of 11 Guddu power plant units caused supply shortfall of 787 megawatts

KARACHI: Tripping of units at the Guddu Thermal Power Plant led to a major power breakdown on Friday that affected various areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

Officials maintained that dense fog was the main reason for the trip that led to the power outage. They also said that the power supply may only be restored when the fog dissipates.

According to officials, five out of 16 electricity units of the Guddu Thermal Power Plant were already out of order. An additional 11 units tripped and resulted in the loss of 747 megawatts of electricity, thereby causing a massive disruption in the provincial power supply.



 

The outage has affected areas of Karachi including Liaquatabad, Korangi, Mehmoodabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi Town, Soldier Bazar, Old City Area, Saddar Town and Defence View.

Power Supply Update:
Due to tripping in National Grid, power supply is affected to most parts of Sind including Karachi. K-Electric's restoration efforts are underway. We regret inconvenience caused to customers and request their cooperation during this time.

K-Electric spokesperson maintained that repair work was underway and apologised customers for inconvenience.
