Chinese scholar visits IPRI: ‘Pakistan in favour of balanced govt in Afghanistan’
Dr Nuri stated Pakistan is in favour of balanced political government in Afghanistan.
A Chinese scholar’s visit to Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI) on Wednesday resulted in a discussion on the future course for Pakistan in South Asia, especially after the United States withdraws its troops from Afghanistan.
IPRI President Dr Maqsudul Hasan Nuri welcomed Zeng Xiangyu from the Institute of South Asian Studies, Sichuan University, China, and briefed him about the institute, said a press release.
Dr Nuri stated that Pakistan is in favour of a balanced political government in Afghanistan where all ethnic groups are given proper representation. Peace and stability in Afghanistan is necessary for regional growth, he said.
He added that Pakistan and China should expand collaboration in the fields such as agriculture, medicine, farming, construction and sports.
He stressed upon the need to vitalize cooperation between Chinese and Pakistan think tanks for concrete policy making.
In his remarks, Zeng said that the people of China have gained greater respect for Pakistan for the help rendered after the devastating earthquake in China. He said Chinese people regard Pakistan as a true friend which has always come forth in times of need. The two scholars also agreed upon the need to develop people-to-people contacts between the two countries.
