Tennis: Serena seeded 8th for Wimbledon
Defending champion Serena Williams and her sister Venus have been made the eighth and 24th seeds respectively.
LONDON:
Defending champion Serena Williams and her sister Venus have been made the eighth and 24th seeds respectively for this year’s Wimbledon. Serena, a 13-times grand slam champion, has played just one match since clinching last year’s tournament due to injuries and health problems while Venus also made a return this week after a five-month layoff. World number one Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark was seeded number one and Belgian Kim Clijsters second. In the men’s draw the seedings followed the world rankings, number one and defending champion Rafa Nadal taking the top seeding with Novak Djokovic second and six-times winner Roger Federer third ahead of Briton Andy Murray.
