SC takes notice of threatening phone calls to Parveen Rehman’s family
Court instructs federal and provincial governments to trace the person responsible for the threatening phone calls

ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday took notice of the threatening phone calls to the family of late Parveen Rehman's family and Director Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) Anwar Arshad.
The apex court ordered the federal and provincial government to trace the individuals involved in making the phone calls.
Parveen's sister informed the court that the family has been receiving threatening phone calls from unknown individuals.
During the hearing, Justice Azmat Saeed observed that the call are originating from abroad but the individual may be a Pakistani.
Additional secretary interior informed the apex court that the cabinet has given approval for a joint investigation team to be formed.
He added that a notification for formation of the team will be issued soon. The court then adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
The federal government in December assured the SC that a new joint investigation team (JIT) will be constituted to probe into the 2014 murder of social worker and the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP) director Parveen Rehman.

Heading a three-judge bench hearing a plea seeking reinvestigation of the high profile killing, Justice Saeed had said it was tragic that so far Parveen’s murderers could not be arrested.
The social worker was brutally gunned down on March 12, 2014, by two unknown motorcyclists in Karachi.

Her driver, Wali Dad, had lodged an FIR. In February this year, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) filed a petition for independent, fair, and effective reinvestigation into her targeted killing.
