Man guns down woman over marriage dispute

Ali had expressed the desire to marry Humaira but her parents refused his proposal

HAFIZABAD: In a bid to take revenge, a man allegedly gunned down a woman over a marriage dispute in Hafizabad’s Kasoki area on Sunday.

Reportedly, Ali Saqlain, a resident of Moza Shameer, had fallen in love with Humaira and had expressed the desire to marry her. However, the girl’s parents turned down his proposal and she was later married to another man.

On the day of the incident, Humaira came to meet her parents when accused Ali allegedly opened fire on her and fled the scene.

She sustained critical bullet injuries and was killed on the spot. Police shifted the body to a local hospital for an autopsy.

Police have registered a case against the accused and are conducting raids to arrest him. Kasoki police station SHO said that the police were carrying out investigations into the incident and the suspect will be arrested soon.

Earlier, a man gunned down a woman and injured her husband over a marriage dispute in Bahawalpur.

The victim’s father-in-law Zahoor Hussain, a resident of Basti Noor Muhammad Chohan, Moza Noorpur told police that he, his son Mujahid Hussain, daughter-in-law Zakia Bibi and several others went to the shrine of Makhdoom Shah Zakarya in Mailsi Tehsil.

When they were returning from the trip, his nephew Muhammad Shahid, who was hiding in the fields nearby and was armed with a pistol, intercepted them. The accused had a heated argument with his son and said he would kill him for marrying Zakia Bibi.

The culprit took out the gun and opened fire on his son and daughter-in-law. Zakia Bibi was killed on the spot while Mujahid sustained critical injuries.
