QUETTA: The education department has decided to suspend ghost teachers of Kech district as part of ongoing action against non-working academic staff in the province.

The decision came during a meeting on Friday chaired by Education Secretary Tayyab Lehri to discuss the overall performance of the department.
It was highlighted that four officials from Pishin had been sacked and as many as 142 employees of the education department had been issued show-cause notices for being absent from duty.

The employees to whom notices have been issued on directives of the secretary have been told to submit replies immediately, with a warning that otherwise they will also be sacked from the service.

The meeting was informed that around 55 employees of education department had been working in the media industry and not performing their regular duties.

On this, Lehri directed the authorities to send a letter to the Ministry of Information regarding identification of the employees having dual profession.

The participants decided to speed up action against absentee staff for improving the quality of education.

“Education is the only way to take Balochistan on path to progress,” the secretary said.

Deputy Secretary Munir Ahmed Mosyani, Additional Secretary for Development Jahangir Khan Kakar, Additional Secretary Salahuddin Noorzai, Divisional Director Mutayab Afridi and other officials of the department were present on the occasion.
